Qualifikationsziele: Die Studentinnen und Studenten sind in der Lage, physikalische Zusammenhänge im Klimasystem zu analysieren. Sie können mit einfachen Klimamodellen arbeiten und besitzen Grundkenntnisse in der Struktur und der Anwendung von komplexen Klimamodellen. Sie können die Ergebnisse von Klimamodellrechnungen analysieren und bewerten sowie einschlägige Literatur verstehen und kritisch beurteilen.

Inhalte: Prozesse im Klimasystem (z. B. Strahlungs-Zirkulations-Wechselwirkung, Variabilität der „storm tracks“), Einfluss des anthropogenen Klimawandels auf das Klimasystem, Konstruktion von Klimamodellen, Grundgleichungen, physikalische Parametrisierungen, Koordinatensysteme, Zeitschrittverfahren, Modelltypen, Anwendung und Beurteilung von Klimamodellen.
