Trade and Security
Elisabeth Winter
Comments
This seminar examines the changing relationship between trade and security in U.S. politics and international relations. We will analyze how political and economic logics have become increasingly intertwined, both in theory and practice, since the late 20th century. The course focuses on U.S. trade policy as a case study to understand broader transformations in global political economy, including the rise of new institutional actors, shifts in multilateral and bilateral arrangements, and the securitization of economic relations in the 21st century. Students will engage with theoretical debates in International Relations and Political Economy, while also assessing current developments such as U.S.–China trade tensions, supply chain security, and technology competition. close
