Istanbul as Urban Laboratory

Birgit Krawietz

Comments

In this research colloquium, we discuss scholarly literature in English about the Islamization and Ottoman imperialization of the Turkish metropolis. The course offers research insights into the urban texture and infrastructure of this city between two continents and traces decisive developments from Ottoman to modern republican times. A number of sessions are dedicated to special challenges, such as the danger of earthquakes, mega projects, and other things. close
