This interdisciplinary course introduces students to astrobiology and the scientific study of extraterrestrial life, tracing its historical development and exploring the fundamental chemistry and biology of life.
It examines the scientific, philosophical, and religious dimensions of the search for life beyond Earth, and critically analyzes how astrobiological concepts and the idea of extraterrestrial life are portrayed in films, media, and science fiction. The course also addresses the challenges of communicating these ideas to the public and considers their broader cultural and societal impact.

Learning objectives: Students who complete the module acquire in-depth knowledge of selected topics in space exploration. They have the methodological skills to understand the subject matter as well as the technical ability to confidently and independently apply what they have learned to specific problems and to develop strategies for solving them in teams.
Content: Current topics in space exploration, with special consideration to ongoing research projects.
