From Cuneiform Tablets to Ceramics – Cross-Disciplinary Workflows in Digital Artefact Processing
Hubert Mara
Comments
This hands-on course introduces students to the processing and analysis of archaeological 3D models using the Free and Open Software GigaMesh. Participants will work with a diverse range of digital artefacts — from cuneiform tablets to ceramics and metal objects — drawn from various archaeological domains including Assyriology, Classical Archaeology, and Prehistory. The course focuses on developing practical skills in profile computation, surface visualization, and metric analysis, while reflecting on the potentials and limitations of 3D methods in archaeological research. The aim is to build competence in digital workflows that support archaeological documentation, comparison, and interpretation across contexts.
