Comments

A quality management system is not yet mandatory for veterinary practices and clinics in Germany but is particularly widespread in the context of GVP certification by the German Association of Practicing Veterinarians. The term GVP stands for “Good Veterinary Practice”. This is regulated differently in the food and animal feed industry, for example. Here, the existing quality assurance systems are constantly reviewed and adapted due to ever-increasing legal requirements (e.g. traceability, traceability assurance, hygiene regulations), the adoption of international standards (such as ISO 9001 for quality requirements and ISO 22000 for food safety) and internal company requirements (e.g. sustainability or animal welfare). The implementation of quality standards or the introduction of a quality management system means nothing more than structuring the daily practice/clinic routine and saving resources with standardized processes, increasing the profit margin, offering customers and employees transparent processes and in this way, among other things, fulfilling customer wishes and needs.

The seminar introduces quality management, terms, principles, regulations and the added value it brings. Quality management is taught including the implementation of suitable organizational structures, procedures, processes and methods. In addition, the use of quality management tools is developed interactively with the participants in group work.

The students can:
• Define central terms of quality management and explain key requirements of the GVP and DIN EN ISO 9001;
• Explain central quality-relevant principles of veterinary law;
• Evaluate the potential benefits of various quality management methods and of quality management and select suitable instruments and use them in a targeted manner;
• Assess the structure and added value of a quality management system in a practice, clinic and industry;
• Recognize potential for improvement in the practice, clinic and industry and derive appropriate measures;
• Transfer the knowledge acquired in quality management to other company examples. close
