14476 Seminar

Feminist and Queer Hermeneutics in Jewish Studies

Comments

The course explores the feminist and queer approaches to the field of Jewish studies in its scholarly, exegetical and practical paradigms. Through a series of primary and secondary readings, such concepts as gender and sexuality in religious context, textual authority, and phenomenological approaches to tradition will be discussed. Special attention will be paid to how feminist and queer thinkers have challenged dominant narratives within Jewish history to reflect contemporary understandings of identity and agency, using hermeneutical, literary, legal, and deconstructive devices. close
