Prerequisite for participation: Knowledge of Hittite, attendance of the course ‘Introduction to Hittite’.
Comments
Qualification goals:
Students will have advanced knowledge of the grammatical structures, the diachronic and dialectal forms of Hittite and the diachronic and regional forms of cuneiform writing. They will be able to define the cuneiform textual evidence on the topic of “People, Environment, Cultural Arena” in the Hittite language and process it independently from a historical and cultural studies perspective.
Contents:
Students will gain an overview of the Hittite-language cuneiform tradition on the topics of “People, Environment, Cultural Arena” with a special focus on formal, diachronic and dialectal varieties of Hittite.
The topic of the seminar will be Hittite treaty texts, starting with the so-called Bronze Tablet.
