Qualification goals:
The students have advanced knowledge of the grammatical structures and the diachronic and dialectal. They will be able to read cuneiform texts in Akkadian and the diachronic and regional forms of cuneiform writing. They will be able to define cuneiform textual testimonies on the topics of “man, environment, cultural space” in Akkadian and work on them independently from a historical and cultural studies perspective.
Contents:
Students will be given an overview of the Akkadian-language cuneiform tradition on the topics of “People, Environment, Cultural arena” with a special focus on formal, diachronic and dialectal varieties of Akkadian.
In this course, historiographical texts from different periods, and in relation to different regions, will be read. We will start with an inscription from Samsuiluna, then read an inscription from Adadnerari I, and in the last part of the course we will read passages from the “8th Campaign of Sargon II”.
