Qualification goals:
Students have basic knowledge of Sumerian grammar and lexis, in particular Sumerian of the 3rd millennium, as well as the cuneiform variants that are particularly relevant for Sumerian.
They are able to understand simple texts in terms of writing, language and content. They will be familiar with the typological and structural characteristics of Hittite, the functioning of a complex word and syllable script, the basic types of sources, the transmission situation and research history of Sumerian transmission.
They have: The basics of subject-related philological or linguistic methodological competence.
Contents:
Students acquire basic linguistic knowledge of Sumerian, a core language of the cuneiform tradition. They will receive an introduction to the Sumerian variant of cuneiform writing and the Sumerian language and the development of various simple text types.
