(EK) History of Egyptian Language and Writing

In this course, participants learn the Hieratic script. By reading various Hieratic texts of varying degrees of difficulty, they practise recognising individual characters (the hieratograms), gain insight into the techniques of writing Hieratic, and practise reading coherent hieratic texts.
Participation requirement are a passed BA examination and thorough knowledge of Middle Egyptian language, as well of reading Hieroglyphs.
As this course is part of the English Master's degree programme ‘Digital Studies of Ancient Texts’ (DISTANT), the language of instruction is English.
