Introduction to Computational Communication Research Using Python
Jo-Ju Kao
Comments
In recent years, computational methods have become increasingly prominent in communication science. This course provides an introduction to computational communication research using Python. We will begin with the basics of Python and then explore a range of commonly used computational methods in communication research, with a particular focus on text analysis. Students will develop practical skills in writing simple programs, crawling online data, organizing datasets, and conducting exploratory data analysis. They will also gain an understanding of the purposes, underlying principles, and practical applications of various computational approaches. Please note that this is not a comprehensive programming course. The focus is on hands-on applications in text processing and communication research. The seminar is suitable for students with no prior programming experience who are interested in computational methods or plan to apply them in their master’s thesis.
Course language: This course will be conducted exclusively in English. This includes all lectures, discussions, and assignments. Students are expected to engage with course materials and participate in course activities in English. close
