The General Academic Advising of Freie Universität Berlin provides information and advice to prospective students and current students starting from the orientation phase up to the completion of their studies.
We offer informational and counseling sessions of varying intensity and duration. The student advisors support those seeking advice in deciding on a course of study, in case of orientation difficulties with the course of study, and in changing or dropping out of the course of study. Other frequent topics are doubts about admission chances or uncertainty about whether and where to study.
Our sessions don’t have a determined outcome as the focus of the counseling is on the individual needs of those seeking advice, with the goal of making an independent decision that is right for them. All concerns are treated confidentially.
Our counseling is voluntary, free of charge, confidential and independent.
Our counseling offers and contact information can be found on this page: https://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/beratung/ssc/bereiche/allgemeine-studienberatung.html.
The General Academic Advising organizes and conducts advising- and information-related events (fairs, workshops, orientational and teaching events).
Another focus is the production and management of study-related formats (web and print).
We are well-connected to other institutions at Freie Universität Berlin as well as other universities and institutions of the state (Senate, Employment Agency) and have close contacts to schools and other education-related organizations such as the Studierendenwerk.
Detailed information about our activities in recent years can be found in the counseling yearbooks or the annual report.
