As part of the Berlin University Alliance’s efforts to promote open and FAIR research hardware, the interdisciplinary Open.Make team has developed the BUA Mobile Lab – a mobile makerspace designed to support researchers working with open hardware.
From 3 to 13 June 2025, the Mobile Lab will be located at Freie Universität Berlin (Mensa II). Visitors are invited to explore the lab, learn about digital fabrication tools such as 3D printing, and discuss the potential of open source hardware in research. The Open.Make team will be on site on weekdays around lunchtime and also available by request.
The Mobile Lab offers not only equipment but also mentoring for university projects developing research hardware. Researchers can receive support on digital production techniques as well as documentation practices. The lab is part of a broader infrastructure that includes the permanent Making Lab at the TU Berlin library.
Whether you are already developing hardware, just starting, or simply curious, the Mobile Lab provides an opportunity to connect, learn, and give feedback. All disciplines are welcome.
