Emergency Situations
Have you found yourself in a threatening or violent situation?
Here’s what you can do.
If you are the person who is directly impacted
- Shout or speak loudly. Draw attention to the situation.
- Get bystanders involved. Ask them for help.
- Call the police. The telephone number in Germany is 110.
If you are a bystander
- Speak to the person being threatened or attacked. Let them know you support them. Do not put yourself in danger.
- Try to memorize the physical features of the perpetrator.
- Call the police (with the person who was threatened or attacked). The telephone number in Germany is 110.
- Stay with the person who was threatened or attacked until help arrives or they indicate they no longer need your assistance.
After the incident
- Document the incident (people involved; type of incident; place; time; names and contact details of other witnesses).
- Tell the person who was threatened or attacked that you are willing to act as a witness or accompany them to counseling sessions, the police station, or other authorities/support services.
- Talk to the Contact Person in Cases of Sexualized Harassment, Discrimination and Violence about what you experienced or reach out to another counseling service.
