About the Event

Sustainability and climate protection are among the greatest global challenges of our time. Universities play a pivotal role in addressing these challenges by educating future decision-makers and generating relevant knowledge.

To support this mission, Una Europa’s Self-Steering Committee on Sustainability is hosting an interactive online community event dedicated to exploring innovative educational formats for sustainability. This event will foster collaboration, international perspectives, and interdisciplinary online learning opportunities.

What to Expect

  • Keynote Speaker:
    Prof. Marco Rieckmann will deliver a keynote on “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Higher Education”, highlighting the potential of MOOCs, Micro-Credentials, and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

  • Insights on Sustainability Education Formats:

    • Micro-Credentials and MOOCs: Flexible and accessible approaches to sustainability education, presented by Laura Riuttanen (University of Helsinki).
    • Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL): Innovative cross-border teaching collaborations, presented by Johanna Sári (Freie Universität Berlin).
  • Breakout Sessions:
    Dive deeper into these educational formats and discuss how to implement and scale them in your own teaching.

  • Johanna Sári: Project coordinator for COIL at Freie Universität Berlin and a member of the BeCOIL network.
