Subjects Taught at Freie Universität Berlin Ranked Very High in the QS Ranking and the CHE University Ranking

According to the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject, Freie Universität is the best German university in three subjects and among the world’s 50 best universities in five subjects. As announced by QS, Freie Universität leads the German universities in the subjects of history, linguistics, and communication science. Freie Universität Berlin also performed very well in the most recent university ranking by the Center for Higher Education (CHE).

In the CHE ranking new good results were achieved for the subject of history. In English and American studies, education, German studies, psychology, and Romance languages, Freie Universität’s good performance in the previous evaluation in 2010 was reconfirmed.

In a global comparison, Freie Universität ranked 14 in history, 41 in modern languages and linguistics, 44 in communication sciences, and 48 in sociology. In a nationwide comparison, according to information provided by QS, Freie Universität is one of the five best German universities in three additional subjects: psychology, English language and literature, and education. The university placed among the ten best German universities for the subjects Earth sciences and oceanography, chemistry, computer science, and philosophy.

In the CHE rankings, each year one third of the subjects are newly evaluated. The subjects evaluated this year were language studies, education, psychology, and engineering. According to information provided by CHE, more than 300 colleges and universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands were surveyed.The rankings evaluate facts about studying, teaching, the facilities and equipment, and research, as well as judgments made by 250,000 students.
