Target Group

The target group of the series consists of master’s and doctoral students from all disciplines, as well as researchers—German- and/or English-speaking—interested in an international scientific career.

Content and Objectives

The stages of a scientific career typically include doctoral studies, completing research stays, and competing for postdoctoral or research positions—often abroad. The seminars provide information on differences in scientific career paths in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Germany, highlighting varied approaches to train young researchers and opportunities for gaining research experience through international stays.

Besides excellent research results, international experience in teaching and research, the value of an international network, as well as the ability to secure grants, are key criteria for selection into academic and professorial positions. To help young researchers gain this experience, universities such as Freie Universität Berlin offer professional development programs.
