Diversity dimensions

Freie Universität Berlin considers the following ten interlinked diversity dimensions to be central - based on the Berlin State Anti-Discrimination Act (Landesantidiskriminierungsgesetz Berlin, LADG) and the Diversity Strategy and Action Plan of Freie Universität Berlin:

This list of dimensions is not exhaustive but is intended to serve as a general guide. Differences among people as they relate to individual dimensions need to be viewed in an intersectional light, i.e., as interconnected, interrelated, and tied to structural discrimination and inequality. For example, anti-Muslim racism relates to an intersection of both racism as well as religious discrimination.

The dimensions listed here apply to all of us, i.e., everyone has a gender identity, an age, and a sexual orientation. However, not everyone is equally affected by discrimination be it on an individual or structural level.

The diversity work carried out at Freie Universität Berlin aims to empower those who are subject to discrimination and to dismantle discriminatory structures at the university as a whole. You can find more information about diversity at Freie Universität Berlin here.
