May – August 2009
Malte Wessels is a Graduate Student in German Literature at the Johns Hopkins University. His PhD project examines the modern German novel at its moment of genesis. Taking Wieland's Agathon as a point of departure, Malte Wessels argues that the novel as a literary form – rather unimpressed by the attempts to domesticate it in a poetological framework – answers to the epistemological problems informing 18th century aesthetics (Baumgarten) and cosmology (Lambert).
