Kant and the Conflicts of Reason

Reed Winegar is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Fordham University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012 and his B.A. from Harvard University in 2005. His project focuses on the relationship between Immanuel Kant’s (1724-1804) concept of an antinomy (i.e., a contradiction between the laws of reason) and Kant’s contrast between human, discursive understanding and divine, intuitive understanding. The project examines the central importance of this relationship for Kant’s treatments of moral and theoretical philosophy, aesthetics, and religion and explores how this relationship influenced the important historical transition from Kant’s Transcendental Idealism to the Absolute Idealism of philosophers like G.W.F. Hegel (1770-1831).
