Celebrating 30 Years of Cooperation: President of Freie Universität Berlin at Peking University
The President of Freie Universität Berlin, Professor Peter-André Alt visited Peking University on 22 and 23 September. He followed an invitation of President Zhou Qifeng.
In the center of Prof. Alt's visit was the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the cooperation between Peking University and Freie Universität. During the joint ceremony on 22 September both universities did not only look back on their long and successful history of collaboration. They were also looking forward into the future: Earlier this year and on the occasion of a visit of President Zhou to Berlin both partners signed an agreement to broaden and further their relations as a Strategic Partnership.
Together with President Alt a large delegation came to Beijing with professors of different departments of Freie Universität: Philosophy and Humanities, History and Cultural Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Mathematics and Computer Science.
On 23 September President Alt hosted a reception at Peking University for alumni and friends of Freie Universität Berlin.
When the cooperation agreement between Freie Universität Berlin and Peking University was signed in 1981, it was the first Sino-German agreement of its kind signed after the beginning of the opening up policy in China. The academic contacts between both universities reach back to end of the 1970ies.
