The project “Football as a space of belonging: amateur football teams of Latin-American migrants in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo” funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation) analyses the emergence of spaces of belonging in the context of migration and amateur football. Directed by Prof. Dr. Stephanie Schütze from the Instiute for Latin American Studies of the FU Berlin, this will be analysed ethnographically on the example of amateur football teams of Peruvian and Bolivian migrants in the Brazilian metropolises Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The project’s objective is to understand the social significance of football as a transcultural everyday practice, paying special attention to the gender-specific differences between female and male amateur football teams (duration of the project: 2017-2020).
