AiS Workshop Mental Health

AiS Workshop Mental Health

Online workshop 24 November 2022, 09:30-13:30

News from Oct 27, 2022

We warmly invite you to the one-day online workshop on “The German Health System and the Mental Health of Exiled Scholars” taking place on 24 November 2022 via Webex.

International scholars that had to deal with restrictions to their personal and academic freedom and political prosecution, with protracted displacement, border regimes or setting themselves up in a new environment have brought up the issue of mental health related to their migration stories. May it be a traumatic or tumultuous past or a precarious present, people have to cope with different circumstances as an international migrant scholar.

This workshop wishes to invite AiS members to gather for an in-depth exchange on two main themes: First, negotiating what mental health encompasses and what the German health system offers in this regard, how to receive access to the health system and which additional options exist beyond official institutions. Second, discussing some of the mental health issues migrant or exiled scholars may face in their daily lives within the AiS environment and which possibilities people have in different social networks to approach this.

Themes you will discuss at the workshop are:

What does mental health mean?

How does the German health care system work with regard to mental health?

How can I find a psychotherapist?

Open exchange about mental health, individual situations and coping strategies
