The departments have undertaken an obligation to schedule courses that are relevant to exams in such a way that participation is compatible with family responsibilities if at all possible. In addition, parallel courses should be offered at different times. This is provided by the Guidelines on the Promotion of Women at Freie Universität Berlin. Implementation is the responsibility of the study and examinations offices of the departments.

Still, it can be difficult for students who have family responsibilities to meet their attendance obligations. In these cases, it is possible to agree with the instructor on reasonable academic work as a replacement (RSPO Sec. 9 (4)).

An event called "Students with Children" is held every winter semester to provide information on attendance obligations, organizing and financing a study program, childcare vouchers and allocation of childcare placements.
