Real or imaginary, dead or alive – pick a person and describe our university to them
Over the last eighteen months we have been working hard on coming up with a new brand image for Freie Universität Berlin. Through a range of interviews, surveys, and events you have let us know what you think of the university and how you imagine its future. Together with a highly diverse sounding board made up of university members from different disciplines, status groups, and administrative bodies, internal and external communication experts, and university management we have been able to define some specific traits of Freie Universität based on your opinions. That’s why, for example, we will be portraying the university as a principled institution that critiques its surroundings and showcasing its history as a bastion of academic freedom.
But how would you describe Freie Universität to someone else? Not necessarily your colleague from the office next door, but someone famous, like Chuck Norris, Miss Piggy, or Darth Vader? Get chatting with your conversation partner of choice, bearing in mind their social, historical, or fictional context. Think about what Freie Universität could mean for your new friend within their frame of reference. For example, Olaf Scholz will probably have a different perception of Freie Universität than Janis Joplin, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, or Benjamin Blümchen would. Or maybe you would like to explain Freie Universität to your grandmother? That’s a great idea, too! We’d love to hear what she’s like and what she’d think of our university.
