Many important figures from academia and politics are expected to attend, including Berlin’s Senator for Higher Education and Research Ina Czyborra. The institute, which is located on Freie Universität Berlin’s natural sciences campus, works in close cooperation with the university in the field of artificial intelligence and participates in joint projects such as the MATH+ Cluster of Excellence, collaborative research centers, and various projects at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The ZIB also operates one of the German National High-Performance Computing Alliance (Nationaler Verbund für Hochleistungsrechnen) supercomputers on behalf of the Berlin University Alliance.

For over forty years the ZIB has carried out world-class research in applied mathematics and data-intensive high-performance computing. Its overarching goal is to enrich and improve life in all areas of society by producing knowledge and developing technologies that are based on innovative research – whether that is artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation systems, or revolutionary medical technology.
