Kick-off for the Next Round of Freie Universität Berlin’s International Continuing Education Program

Online and on-site certificate courses offered through the FUB-ContinuEd program this fall 2023

№ 140/2023 from Jun 15, 2023

FUB-ContinuEd, the international professional development program of Freie Universität Berlin, will be offering its online certificate courses again this fall. The focus of the program lies on socially relevant topics such as diversity management and sustainability, as well as the opportunity to acquire and enhance skills in intercultural communication, leadership, and problem solving. With its virtual format, FUB-ContinuEd offers a sustainable learning option, specifically catering to individuals with limited flexibility in their schedules in terms of both time and location. New to the program is an in-person continuing education course on Positive Pedagogy, “Positive Futures – Die Hoffnungswerkstatt” (“the hope workshop”). All courses are subject to a fee and designed to fit around work and studies.

The international certificate courses are especially designed for people who want to supplement their professional qualifications with practical skills to help them navigate an increasingly globalized workplace. “We strive to provide accessible, affordable, and ‘resource friendly’ continuing education courses for people in different professional and personal situations,” says Dr. Kristina Rödder, program director of FUB-ContinuEd. Program alumni have expressed the special additional benefit they experienced in networking with other participants and sharing knowledge internationally.

FUB-ContinuEd offers international certificate courses for people at all stages of life. The online course portfolio is mainly taught in English and covers a wide range of socially relevant topics such as diversity management and sustainability while also enabling participants to acquire and develop communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. The program also includes the course “Academic Writing in German,” in which researchers, students, and doctoral candidates who need additional support with their German writing skills receive special training.

This year, FUB-ContinuEd will offer a new course titled “Positive Futures – Die Hoffnungswerkstatt” (“the hope workshop”) in cooperation with the acclaimed scholar Dr. Andreas M. Krafft. The course will address topics from futures studies and combine them with elements of positive psychology. Its target audience are educators and other professionals who work with young people in schools, social organizations, recreation centers, and other educational settings.

Over a period of seven to nine weeks, online classes impart the significant findings from current research to participants and link that knowledge to the practical demands of the workplace. With live online sessions and self-study phases, the courses offer participants flexibility in terms of when and how they organize their learning. The courses take place at different times of the day, allowing participants from different time zones to attend the courses.

The on-site course, “Positive Futures – Die Hoffnungswerkstatt,” takes place in five block sessions on the campus of Freie Universität Berlin.

Courses offered through the international continuing education program, FUB-ContinuEd, are subject to a fee and designed to fit around work and studies. Small classes with six to fifteen students foster an intensive and in-depth learning environment. Participants receive a certificate from Freie Universität Berlin upon successful completion of the course.
