Open-door Counseling Day on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Counseling services at Freie Universität offer confidential counseling for those confronted with physical, psychological, or sexualized harassment, discrimination, or violence

№ 217/2020 from Nov 18, 2020

Coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Wormen, numerous contact and counseling centers at Freie Universität Berlin are offering confidential counseling on November 25, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The counseling sessions can take place in German, English, French, Spanish, or Turkish. To accommodate the current pandemic situation, the counseling sessions will take place by phone or online. The gender equality officers and women's counselors in the Chief Gender Equality Office as well as from numerous departments and units at Freie Universität are participating. The open counseling day is being organized by the Office of the Standing Working Group on Sexualized Harassment, Discrimination, and Violence at Freie Universität Berlin.

The counselors are bound by professional confidentiality.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women takes place annually worldwide as a day of remembrance and action against all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls. Experts say that domestic violence increases in times of restrictions in daily life, such as the current coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, it is more difficult for those affected by violence to seek support. The aim of the counseling day, which is being organized for the second time at Freie Universität since 2019, is to counteract this. Those seeking advice will find support here.
