The Rhetoric(s) of Literary Studies

International Summer School at the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies from July 23 to 30, 2017

№ 206/2017 from Jul 21, 2017

The rhetoric(s) of literary studies is the subject of the Summer School of the Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School for Literary Studies to be held July 23 to 30, 2017, at Freie Universität Berlin. Young scholars from Germany and abroad will explore the theory and history of rhetoric and investigate the open or hidden progression of rhetorical techniques and rhetorical knowledge in literature and other disciplines. The resulting perspectives will be brought together in a final discussion. The presentations and discussions will alternate between German and English. Members of the media are welcome to attend the opening of the Summer School on Sunday, July 23. Please register by email to rebecca.mak@fu-berlin.de.

The Summer School participants will address the following issues: What rhetorical methods does literature use? What are the elements of rhetoric in artistic forms of expression? How can rhetoric be found in the philological and literary studies curriculum? How should literary studies deal with its rhetorical heritage as an academic discipline?
