New: Targeted Support for Refugee Women in "Welcome to Freie Universität Berlin" Program

Presentation at Freie Universität Berlin to Address Situation of Women Refugees in Berlin / including book presentation and panel discussion

№ 111/2017 from May 09, 2017

What support would be beneficial to help women refugees continue their university studies in Germany or start a new degree program here? What general challenges do female refugees face? What possibilities are there for social integration? What role can universities play? The "Welcome to Freie Universität Berlin" program is holding an informational meeting to specifically address the situation of women refugees in Berlin. In addition, there will be a book presentation of Living in Refugee Camps in Berlin: Women's Perspectives and Experiences, which was edited by the social and cultural anthropologists Professor Hansjörg Dilger and Kristina Dohrn from Freie Universität. The book emerged from a student-initiated study done at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology in cooperation with the International Women Space group. It describes the situation of women living in emergency collective accommodation in Berlin. In an ensuing panel discussion, several involved partners will discuss challenges and concrete measures to facilitate a better integration of women refugees. The event will take place in English, and interested parties are welcome to attend. Please notify the organizers of your intention to attend by Monday, May 15, 2017, via email info@welcome.fu-berlin.de
