Accolades for the Choir

Chamber Choir of Collegium Musicum Berlin Won Two Silver and Two Gold Medals at Grand Prix of Nations Competition

№ 075/2017 from Apr 10, 2017

The Chamber Choir of the Collegium Musicum, composed of members of two Berlin universities, Freie Universität and Technische Universität, won two silver medals at this year's Grand Prix of Nations competition: one for contemporary choral music and one for folklore. Amateur choirs from around the world contend for the top prizes. The Chamber Choir won gold medals in two special categories: for the interpretation of the piece "Iuppiter" by the composter Michael Ostrzyga and for the overall performance of the conductor Donka Miteva.

The Collegium Musicum is composed of members of Freie Universität and Technische Universität Berlin. Currently almost 400 students and other members of the two universities perform in one or more of the five ensembles: full choir, chamber choir, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, and the Berlin Uni Bigband.

The Grand Prix of Nations international choral competition is organized by Interkultur, an organizer of international choral competitions and festivals. After the first Grand Prix of Nations in 2015 in Magdeburg, the competition was held this year in Berlin. A total of 30 choirs from 15 countries presented their skills and singing repertoire in the Berlin Philharmonic. A total of 21 gold medals, eleven silver, and one bronze medal were awarded.
