International Week at Freie Universität Berlin from June 27 to July 1, 2016

№ 226/2016 from Jun 24, 2016

Going abroad, internationalization, and cooperation with international institutions in research and teaching are the focus of this year's International Week being held from June 27 through July 1, 2016, at Freie Universität Berlin. The program includes information events for students, researchers, and staff as well as lectures and discussions that address, for example, the political conditions for academic cooperation. On June 28 at 4 p.m., there will be a public panel discussion on Academic Cooperation in Times of Political Conflict." Another public panel discussion will deal with the consequences of the Brexit referendum in Britain. The program includes more than 40 events. Most of them are public. Some of them require advance registration.

Students can get practical information about going abroad (Go Out Information Day) as well as general information about career opportunities in EU institutions. They will have a chance to talk with alumni of Freie Universität who are already working abroad. For junior researchers, there will be information events abut international career paths. Events devoted to the Chinese and Russian research systems and other about exchange with universities in Israel and Latin America will be of interest to both students and researchers. Several researchers from Germany and abroad, including those working in classical studies and archaeology, will describe worldwide exchange with colleagues.

Internationalization is also increasingly important in administration: staff members other than researchers can also take part in exchange programs. During the International Week, they can find out about exchange opportunities abroad for staff as well as how they can be funded. The heads of Freie Universität's seven international liaison offices will be in Dahlem during the International Week and will be able to provide information about exchange opportunities in the regions. The offices are located in Beijing, Brussels, Cairo, Moscow, New Delhi, New York, and São Paulo.

Numerous academic departments, institutes, centers, and other institutions at Freie Universität Berlin have been involved in organizing the university's second International Week. The aim of the week is to bundle the university’s diverse offerings and activities in the field of internationalization for a comprehensive presentation to inform students and the other members of the university of what is available.
