Freie Universität Berlin Expands Program to Support Refugees

Introduction to Studying Business and Economics on June 24, 2016 / Space Available in Preparatory Courses at German Level B2/C1: Registration Possible until June 10, 2016

№ 197/2016 from Jun 07, 2016

On June 24, 2016, there will be a half-day introduction to "Studying Business and Economics at Freie Universität Berlin" targeted for refugees. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Rudi Bresser from the School of Business and Economics at Freie Universität is the presenter. Refugees interested in studying business or economics are welcome to attend. They should sign up by June 16, 2016, by sending an email to admission@welcome.fu-berlin.de. A good command of English is necessary. Beginning in September 2016, Freie Universität is also offering three preparatory courses for refugees in its Studienkolleg. These courses consist of various subjects with integrated German language instruction at the B2/C1 level and are followed by an opportunity to take the assessment test for studying at a German university. Anyone who is interested can still register through June 10, 2016, via the online registration form.

The classes are aimed at applicants with direct or indirect higher education entrance qualification who have German language skills equivalent to having passed the B1 level or better. They are offered in three main areas: natural sciences, life sciences, and humanities and social sciences including economics.

After successfully training a total of 70 participants, Freie Universität Berlin will be able to offer new German classes for refugees at levels A1 and A2 beginning in September. The German classes serve as preparation for studying at the university. Registration for the German courses is also possible using the online registration form.

The various courses are part of the Welcome to Freie Universität Berlin program, which was put in place to facilitate refugees' access to studying in regular degree programs at the university. The Welcome program is funded by the Berlin Senate and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
