№ 194/2016 from Jun 05, 2016
The second term of FUBiS, the International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin, started on Sunday for 138 students from 19 countries. They take German language classes as well as other subjects taught in English. The term lasts six weeks. Most of the students are from the United States, China, and Canada. The term will run through July 16.
The participants can choose from among various subject classes taught in English and German language classes or a combination of the two. FUBiS offers classes on a variety of topics such as the history of Germany under National Socialism, the European Union, milestones of Berlin music history, and German literature. FUBiS awards internationally recognized credits for all the completed courses. The academic program takes place on the Lankwitz Campus of Freie Universität Berlin. It is augmented with field trips, including a boat trip on the Spree River, a tour along the former Berlin Wall, and a guided tour of the Reichstag. There are also opportunities for the participants to take day trips or weekend excursions to Rostock, Dresden, and Leipzig.
The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and a winter term was added in 2007. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad. In 2015 FUBiS welcomed 660 students to Freie Universität.
