135 Participants from 22 Countries

№ 001/2015 from Jan 04, 2015

The first 2015 term of the International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin, FUBiS, started on Sunday. With 135 students from 22 countries, this is the largest enrollment to date for the first term. During the three-week program the students take German language courses as well as subject courses that are taught in English (four of them) and Spanish (one course). Most of the students are from South Korea, the United States, and Brazil. The term runs until January 24.

The FUBiS participants can select several courses including German language courses and other subjects. Seminars on the history and policies of the European Union as well as the development of music technology in Germany with a focus on Berlin are taught in English. Another seminar taught in English deals with the historical and theoretical perspectives at the intersection of law, society, and policy making. The course taught in Spanish deals with traditional and new marketing practices of the 21st century.

Students can earn internationally recognized credits for all the FUBiS courses. In addition to the classes held on the Lankwitz campus of Freie Universität, there are field trips to important sites in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, including tours of the government district in Berlin and tours of Potsdam.

The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and in 2007 a winter term was added. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad, and in 2014 approximately 500 students from abroad participated.
