Students in the Role of Diplomats

New Round of National Model United Nations (NMUN) / Applications Being Accepted through October 26

№ 359/2014 from Oct 20, 2014

The National Model United Nations (NMUN) gives students enrolled in any discipline an opportunity to try being an ambassador by participating in various committees. The students are able to gain first-hand impressions about multinational diplomacy. The next conference will be held in the Sheraton and Hilton hotels in New York City in March/April 2015. The voting procedures and closing ceremony will be held in the headquarters of the United Nations. The application deadline is Sunday, October 26, 2014.

In advance of the conference, there will be an UN study tour in New York, where the young ambassadors will be able to prepare for their roles as diplomats at the United Nations headquarters. During the fall/winter semester, the students at Freie Universität will participate in an interdisciplinary project group, which takes place twice a week during the entire semester including the lecture period and lecture-free period.

With more than 5,000 participants from North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, the National Model United Nations is the world's largest UN simulation for college and university students. The aim of the simulation conference is to give the participants a first-hand impression of the United Nations system and the foundations of international law, professional negotiation strategies, and political rhetoric in English as well as information about specific countries and organizations. They then apply this knowledge during the simulation event.

Students from any discipline may apply. Excellent English skills are required, and it is desirable to have a certain degree of knowledge about the United Nations. A great deal of commitment is also expected. The participants will need to pay part of the costs themselves. Their contribution will be approximately 950 euros.
