On June 11, 2012, India Science Day at Freie Universität Berlin will be dedicated to Indo-German scientific exchange. Scientists from India and the Berlin-Brandenburg region will be giving presentations about joint projects and various types of cooperation. The issues will concentrate on sustainability with regard to climate change, land use, and resource scarcity. The presentations are open to the public. To sign up, send an e-mail to einladung@fu-berlin.de.

The symposium will be opened with a welcoming speech by the Indian Ambassador in Berlin, Her Excellency, Mrs.Sujatha Singh. The presenters will be scientists from Freie Universität and Indian scientists with fellowships from the German Academic Exchange Service. There will be an opportunity for the scientists to meet during a reception in the New Conservatory of the Botanic Garden.

For Professor Peter-André Alt, the president of Freie Universität, India is an important partner in science and research. According to Alt, "We have already maintained strong relations with five Indian partner universities for many years. In 2008 we opened a liaison office in New Delhi based on a strategic decision to put more emphasis on academic exchange with India."

The India Science Day is part of the Days of India in Germany initiated by the Indian Embassy on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
