THE Ranking: Humanities at Freie Universität Still Outstanding and Further Improved

Worldwide at Place 29 / Only Two Other German Universities with Excellence Status among Best 50

According to the new ranking by the prestigious journal Times Higher Education (THE), the humanities subjects at Freie Universität are among the best in the world. As announced by THE in London, the university improved its world rank by five places, moving up to place 29. Within Germany, Freie Universität was ranked higher in the humanities than the other eight universities selected in the German Excellence Initiative. Among continental European universities, it reached place seven. Only five German universities were included among the world’s top 50 universities, three of which, including Freie Universität, have excellence status.

The president of Freie Universität Berlin, Professor Peter-André Alt, said the good placement was further evidence for the outstanding research achievements and reputation of the scholars at Freie Universität.

In the renowned QS World University Ranking, published during the first half of this year, the humanities subjects at Freie Universität were also rated very well. In the QS Ranking, Freie Universität reached 30th place in the humanities, higher than the other German universities with excellence status.
