Eminent Political Scientist Nancy Fraser to Spend Two-year Research Period at Freie Universität Berlin

The influential U.S. political scientist Nancy Fraser is a professor at the New School for Social Research in New York and is spending two years at Freie Universität as a visiting researcher. As part of her official duties as an Einstein Visiting Fellow at the Graduate School of North American Studies, she will hold a public lecture in the fall of 2011.

Nancy Fraser is one of the world’s most influential intellectuals of our time. With her work on social and political theory, the history of ideas of the 19th and 20th centuries, feminist theory, and the issue of the political conditions of social and cultural recognition, she has shaped the debate on the normative foundations of democracy in modern societies.

Nancy Fraser is currently an Einstein Visiting Fellow at the Graduate School of North American Studies. With this program the Berlin Einstein Foundation aims to integrate leading scholars from abroad in the research community in Berlin. As part of her work at Freie Universität, Fraser will work with a group of young scholars from various countries. They will address the issue of the crisis of democracy in the United States.
