Among the Best Chemists in the World
Michael Giersig from Freie Universität Berlin among 100 Most Cited Chemists and Materials Scientists in Thomson Reuters Ranking
№ 146/2011 from May 19, 2011
According to the recent Thomson Reuters ranking, Michael Giersig, a scientist at Freie Universität and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, is among the 100 best chemists and materials scientists in the world. The ranking is based on the influence of the scientists determined from the number of publications during the past ten years and the frequency with which the publications have been cited. At place 74 in chemistry and 83 in materials science, Michael Giersig is one of only two Germans who are represented in both disciplines.
The Thomson Reuters media group published this ranking in the International Year of Chemistry to celebrate the achievements of the chemists who were particularly often cited and thus exercise the greatest influence on scientific progress. The minimum requirement for inclusion in the ranking was at least 50 scientific publications since February of 2000. The most represented countries are the United States followed by Germany and Great Britain. Thomson Reuters published the ranking as part of its scientific information service ScienceWatch.com.
Dr. Michael Giersig, a specialist in nanomaterials and their application in electronics and biomedicine, completed his master's degree and doctorate at Freie Universität. He has recently accepted an appointment as a professor in the Department of Physics at Freie Universität Berlin. His team is part of Professor Paul Fumagalli's group in the field of experimental solid state physics.
