U.S. Sociologist Todd Gitlin Guest at Freie Universität Berlin

Lecture on May 10, 2011, on the Role of Journalism in the United States

The American sociologist Todd Gitlin is holding a guest lecture at Freie Universität Berlin on May 10. The topic of his lecture is "The Heroic Moment of American Journalism and the Long Twilight that Followed." It is part of the lecture course "Journalism Research and Organizational Communication" taught by Prof. Dr. Margreth Lünenborg and Prof. Dr. Juliana Raupp. The guest lecture is open to the public, and there is no admission fee.

Todd Gitlin combines the academic disciplines of communication, sociology, popular culture, and political science in his work. He is currently a professor of journalism and sociology at Columbia University, where he also chairs the Ph.D. Program in communications. He has published widely, both books and contributions to newspapers, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the  Washington Post.
