Achaemenid Traces in Ancient Cultural Monuments of Eurasian Nomads

On January 21 and 22, 2011, the Institute for Near Eastern Archaeology of Freie Universität Berlin is holding an international colloquium on the influence during antiquity of the Achaemenid culture on the early nomads of Eurasia. Scholars from Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States are expected to participate. The conference language is English. There is no charge, but advance registration is requested.
The Institute for Near Eastern Archaeology of Freie Universität has been involved in exploring antiquity in the Eurasian steppes since the German Research Foundation (DFG) approved funding for the project “Einflüsse der achaimenidischen Kultur in den Denkmälern der frühsarmatischen Zeit im südlichen Ural (5. bis 4. Jh. v. Chr.)” (Influences of Achaemenid culture in the art of the early Sarmatian time in the southern Urals, 5th to 4th cent. BC). Through this project closer cooperation has developed in studying the processes of cultural exchange between the regions and political entities of ancient Central Asia and the adjacent Eurasian/Central Asian region at that time.
