Doctorate at Berlin Mathematical School

Graduate School Offers Study Opportunities and Financial Support / Application Deadline: December 31, 2010

№ 342/2010 from Nov 09, 2010

Mathematics students may apply for the Ph.D. program at Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) until December 31, 2010. BMS is a joint graduate school of the mathematics departments of Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, and Technische Universität. It offers a fast track program in English for completion of a doctorate. Depending on the individual background, admission may be to Phase I (typically with a bachelor’s degree) or directly to Phase II (for example, for students holding a master’s or Diplom). Applications from excellent mathematics students from around the world are welcome.

Students who apply for Phase I of the program must have completed a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification by the start of the program. Typically, a master’s or Diplom degree is required to be accepted for Phase II. BMS offers financial support for outstanding students in both phases.

The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of courses in pure and applied mathematics, all taught in English. In addition, there are summer schools and soft skills courses. Each student has a mentor.

Berlin Mathematical School was founded in 2006. It obtains funding as a Graduate School in the framework of the German Initiative for Excellence.
