New Research Center to Study Brazil
Ceremonial Inauguration February 4 at Latin America Institute of Freie Universität Berlin

A new research center dedicated to the study of Brazil will officially begin its work with a conference to be held February 4 – 6 at the Latin America Institute of Freie Universität Berlin. The inaugural conference of the Research Center for Brazilian Studies / Centro de Pesquisas Brasileiras will focus on "Brazil in a Global Context – Challenges and Perspectives." The event is open to the public; advance registration is requested. There will be simultaneous interpretation between German and Portuguese.
The Research Center for Brazilian Studies will investigate Brazilian issues in cultural studies and the social sciences from a transdisciplinary perspective. Current research projects include international monetary policy, environmental research in Amazonia, and the problems of social inequality and cultural transfer in a continental and global context. The new research center cooperates with numerous partners in Brazil. Emphasis will be placed on training young researchers.
