Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS): Accreditation and internal Kick-Off at FU

What’s it about?

Una Europa has already successfully launched a joint degree programme with the Joint Bachelor in European Studies and is currently entering the accreditation phase for the Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS). With these joint degree programmes, Una Europa is promoting the exchange of students within the alliance with innovative learning formats.

With the Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS), a joint degree programme with a focus on sustainability is set to launch at the end of 2025. For the accreditation of the programme, there was a virtual site visit with all partners involved on 14 and 15 January. Representatives from academia, administration and student affairs were present on behalf of FU Berlin: Prof Dr Holger Dau (Department of Physics and Una Europa SSC Sustainability Chair), Prof Dr Daniel Schubert (Department of Biology), Fleur-Nicole Riskin (MA General and Comparative Literature), Vida Kaluza (Student Affairs and Una Europa Student Administration Cluster Chair) and Janina Taigel (Una Europa SSC and Task Force Sustainability). The results of the site visit with regard to the accreditation of the degree programme are expected in the near future.

BASUS is scheduled to start in the coming winter semester (2025/26). Freie Universität Berlin will participate in the exchange of teaching staff from the departments of Biology, Physics, and Political Science and offer to host students on the programme as a mobility partner. A meeting was held at the Sustainability & Energy Office in Berlin on 17 January to present the current status of BASUS internally. Colleagues from science and administration came together to talk about the opportunities and challenges of the programme.
