Creation of the Flex Employment Agreement Committee
Nov 13, 2025
Like any legal document, the employment agreement on flexible working hours and working remotely at Freie Universität Berlin (the “Flex” Employment Agreement) leaves some room for interpretation. The Flex Employment Agreement Committee has now been created in order to resolve any differences and to ensure that decisions regarding flexible and remote working at Freie Universität are made in a fair and consistent manner. The committee is comprised of HR leadership, official staff representatives, and representatives from other interest groups.
The main rules of procedure for making an appeal to the Flex Employment Agreement Committee were agreed upon and signed by the Director of Administration and Finance and the Chairperson of the Staff Council: Entire Freie Universität in mid-2025. Employees must first try and resolve any conflicts regarding their working arrangements within their office or unit. If the conflict is unable to be resolved at this stage, the Flex Employment Agreement Committee can then be contacted. This can be done be sending an email to the following address: DV-Flex@personal.fu-berlin.de The Flex Employment Agreement Committee will then meet according to established internal steps in order to produce a written resolution that represents the committee’s official recommendation for the case at hand. All individuals involved in the conflict will receive a copy of this recommendation.
