The Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin (Verfassungsgerichtshof des Landes Berlin) will convene on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in the large lecture hall located in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy building on Arnimalle 22. The hearings will address four objections filed in response to the elections held in September 2021 for Berlin’s House of Representatives (Abgeordnetenhaus) and its District Assemblies (Bezirksverordnetenversammlungen). The proceedings are expected to generate a lot of media interest.

Due to the large number of plaintiffs and the high level of public interest in this matter, the offices of the Constitutional Court needed to find a suitable location for the hearings and thus requested permission to use one of Freie Universität’s lecture halls. The university gladly provides this kind of support to other public institutions.

The hearings will not interrupt teaching at Freie Universität, since classes for the 2022/2023 winter semester do not begin until mid-October. The Constitutional Court of the State of Berlin will cover all operational costs associated with the hearings. The Constitutional Court has issued a press release (in German) with further information: https://www.berlin.de/gerichte/sonstige-gerichte/verfassungsgerichtshof/pressemitteilungen/2022/pressemitteilung.1233101.php.
