The professor of English and co-director of the Cluster of Excellence “Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective,” explains what the Cluster does and in particular, what the upcoming annual conference “Anticipating Modernities” plans to address.

What is modernity in literature? Is there such a thing? These issues will be examined in the online public conference of the Cluster of Excellence at Freie Universität from July 6 to 8, 2022. The participants will address the topic in seven panels: Communities in Time, Planetary Modernities/Modern Temporalities, Global Anticipations, Mapping Modernities, Projections, Encounters, Liminal Anticipations.
