The Institute of Food Hygiene is located on the Düppel campus at Königsweg 69.At the Institute of Food Hygiene (WE 8), microbiological testing is done on food. Microorganisms that are found to contaminate food are recorded in a database for further research purposes.Lab work at the institute: in the chemistry working group, for example, food is tested and categorized according to legal standards.Molecular biological study is done on Campylobacter. They are among the zoonotic pathogens that can be transmitted through food and cause inflammatory diarrhea in humans.In the research group "Vibrio" bacteria are examined that are found in coastal waters or aquaculture. Around the world these bacteria are increasingly causing more infections after the consumption of fish and seafood.
